I cannot believe it has taken me this long to write about altitude summit, but I think it is partly because I am finally floating back down to reality from designer/blogger cloud nine.
What an experience! It is everything you would think it would be x 1,000,000!! You seriously return home with what I lovingly refer to as an "alt hangover" because you are bombarded with pretty things & ideas the entire time you are there. It is stimulation overload...in the best way possible.
And we loved every minute of it!
I would say one of the biggest highlights of Alt (If not one of the coolest things to ever happen to us!)
was not only meeting Darcy Miller, the editor for Martha Stewart Weddings, but getting our picture taken with her....and then having her TWEET IT! In case you are wondering...yes, there were girlish squeals coming from our hotel room...and yes, we may have done a little "happy dance"
|Yeah, that is us with Darcy Miller.....no big deal.|
With that being said. Here are the things that we learned while at Alt.
ALL YOU NEED IS A PAIR OF GLITTERY SHOES: The weeks leading up to Alt., you get all these e-mails about how walking the halls is like being at "runway show". As mamas that spend most of our days in comfy yoga pants, these e-mails freaked.us.out. (like "up in the middle of the night panicking over what the heck we were going to wear" kind of freaking out). However, I am happy to report that almost everyone was in Old Navy & Target......and as long as you packed at least one pair of glittery shoes, you fit in (whew!)
IT IS ALL ABOUT THE CARD: If you are going to pack anything fabulous, it better be your business card....and they better be FIERCE! We were blown away by the creativity. We had MANY favorites, but the sewing kit card we got from Beth Giles of Salvage Life still stands out as one of the coolest.
EVERYONE ONE IS A CELEBRITY TO SOMEONE: It is so weird to follow a blog and then finally see that blogger/designer in person. It feels like your are seeing a celebrity. You want to go up and say "Hi!" but you are afraid you will be "bugging" them. Well, this is how I felt until the tables were turned. Nothing was more fun then when people realized that Jessie was the owner of Shop Sweet Lulu...... and then would totally geek out. This perspective on things made us realize that no matter what you do for a living, we are all just normal people who love knowing that others enjoy your work. We figured if we loved meeting our fans, others probably felt the same way......so we started introducing ourselves to anyone we wanted to meet.
YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY NEW FRIENDS!: EVERYONE was so nice. If you go to Alt., you will be sure to come home with some new buddies. Kelly, Lexy, Maddy, Shauna, Erin, Audrey & Kaelin from BHG...we heart you!
Well, that was Alt SLC. We cannot wait until next year.......or until Alt NYC in June..... at Martha Stewart Headquarters. What?! A girl can dream, right?!
